Description: Georgian silver rectangular wine label with canted corners, engraved sherry, by the highly regarded makers Phipps and Robinson. Phipps and Robinson worked between 1784 and 1811, and were known for high quality workmanship and innovative designs, they were one of the best known London label firms (Wine Labels 1730-2003, pg 168). Hallmarks are clear, duty mark has indent. Chain appears original. Prior to 1790 rectangular labels had sharp corners, canted corners became fashionable after this date.
